Director of Aotearoa New Zealand's Stewardship Code

Jackson Rowland is committed to driving the shift towards sustainable finance. He currently serves as the Director of the Aotearoa New Zealand Stewardship Code, a framework designed to guide investors in using their influence to address critical environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues within the companies they invest in.

Previously, Jackson was the Director of Ākina Invest at the Ākina Foundation, a consultancy focused on transforming New Zealand’s economy by fostering the growth of social impact businesses. During his five-year tenure, he launched New Zealand’s first impact investing fund, expanded the organisation’s investment readiness programme fivefold, and forged advisory partnerships with government agencies and investors to promote impact investing.

Jackson is deeply passionate about the potential of businesses to shape the world and the crucial role investors play in steering this influence while safeguarding value. He brings extensive experience in helping investors understand and implement stewardship, ESG, and impact practices, and has advised both governments and corporations in these areas.

His background includes graduate studies in sustainable finance as an Obama Scholar at Columbia University in New York. Jackson has also worked with various startups and as a lawyer at one of New Zealand’s top law firms. Currently, he serves as a Board Trustee for Make-A-Wish New Zealand and was the Oceania lead for the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community. He holds bachelor’s degrees in law and science from the University of Canterbury and was part of the 2019 cohort of the Obama Foundation Leaders programme in the Asia-Pacific region.
